Meet Narendra
Narendra R. Pleas is a dedicated public servant, career prosecutor, and currently serves as the Commonwealth’s Attorney for the City of Suffolk. With almost two decades of experience in courtrooms across the Commonwealth, she brings a principled, thoughtful, and community-centered approach to criminal justice.
Her legal journey began Emporia/Greensville and Sussex County, where she prosecuted a wide range of criminal cases, learning early on the importance of both fairness and accountability. She later served as a Deputy Commonwealth’s Attorney in both Norfolk and Suffolk, managing complex felony dockets and mentoring young attorneys. These experiences shaped her belief that justice must be both effective and equitable—and that true leadership requires listening to the needs of the community.
Narendra is a graduate of Green Run High School and the Governor’s School for the Arts in Norfolk. She earned her Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and Political Science from Agnes Scott College and later obtained her Juris Doctor from Indiana University. Her academic foundation and life experience have fueled a lifelong commitment to justice, service, and public engagement.
Since assuming office, Ms. Pleas has led with a focus on modern, data-informed approach. With her support, Suffolk has established a mental health docket to address cases involving individuals in crisis and has begun tackling environmental crimes. Ms. Pleas has strengthened coordination with city agencies to improve public safety outcomes and her office also leads educational outreach and youth mentorship efforts that aim to inspire civic responsibility and early legal literacy.
Narendra’s work is grounded in the belief that justice should uplift communities—not just punish. She is committed to ensuring that every individual is treated with dignity and that victims, families, and neighborhoods have a voice in the process. Her leadership reflects a balance of firmness and compassion, always rooted in transparency, trust, and service.
